Global Mosiac

http://www.thebroth.com/ has a project called the Global Mosaic -
a bunch of users from anywhere in the world log in and move tiny tiles to form pictures. It's ever-changing, and as the technology used is AJAX, it is instantly updated and appears as a real time animation.
I stop short of saying it's addictive, since you really can't make great pictures (or at least I can't) with tiles this way, and also people keep wrecking whatever you make.

Mosquito ringtones

Have you heard about the "Mosquito ringtone?" Kids in schools everywhere are using this high-frequency ringtone that only kids can hear, in order to get calls in class without teachers hearing the ringer.
There's a site that lets you test how high a tone you are capable of hearing. Based on the results, it can assess your age and hearing level.
Here's my results:

You can still hear reasonably well and you can play this without my old fart colleagues hearing it which makes you feel kinda good.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 15.8kHz
Find out which ringtones you can hear!

...actually, I can hear one notch higher if I listen through PC speakers and not headphones. Weird. But this description seemed accurate enough. Try it out!

Five Minute Fears

Darker Projects has started yet another series, this one called Five Minute Fears.
The aim is to collect a bunch of short (5 pages and under) scripts and turn them into productions as fast as possible. Scripts must be horror/suspense, with a twist. Certain language guidelines apply.

This is giving good exposure to fledgling authors and offering the public "mini-podcasts", which can be gulped down quickly and then get lodged in your imagination all day long.

I have submitted a few scripts, which will be produced over the coming months. The first one will be a Halloween special called "Holiday Shopping."
Stay tuned, and check out the finished episodes at http://www.darkerprojects.com/fiveminutefears.html

Introducing Five Minute Fears

Darker Projects has introduced a novel concept in audio fiction. Entitled "Five Minute Fears", the new series consists of unconnected episodes, each ranging only 3-5 minutes in length. The series is meant to appeal to fledgling writers or folks who have very short stories to tell, as well as to busy iPodders, who only have time for a snippet of audio, and not enough for the 30-odd minutes a good Night Terrors episode can take. Casts are also kept small, so actors who appear in the shows can feel that they are being spotlighted, as it were.
I have written 2 episodes, one of which will be broadcast on Halloween, one of which is still in review by the submissions board.

So far, there are 2 produced episodes: "Elevator Music" and "Tow Truck" (I appear in "Tow Truck").

Consider the possibilities if earlier experiments by nature had taken hold, and humanity as we know it today had evolved in an entirely different way. In such a world, the notion of what it is to be human would be entirely alien to us, and what is human in our eyes would indeed be a strange...specimen.

Original theme composed and realized by Kai Hartwig http://www.hartwigmusic.de
Featuring the voice talents of:
Perry Whittle as Doctor Phary Ngula
Danielle McRae as Doctor Cyan Hexel
Mark Kalita as Bishop Colonel Altrum

The series was produced and directed by Paul Mannering
Post-production by Matt McLaren
